More Waiting

November 18, 2008

It turns out that buying a house is a “hurry up and wait” process. We had to scramble to get everything applied for to make an offer. Then wait while we found a house. Then hurry up to get all the docs for the underwriter, then wait while they review the file. Then when they request additional docs, scramble to find those. Which is what happened yesterday.

We got an email from our loan officer that a few additional documents were needed. We got those over to her before 5pm, but it wasn’t early enough to make into yesterday’s shipment. So our stuff will go out today and arrive at the underwriter’s office on Weds and we will restart our 3-5 day wait for final approval.

Yesterday, 21 days until closing seemed like an eternity. Then after talking with our loan officer who wants to close before the end of the month, I realized it’s not far away at all. Wednesday our stuff will arrive at the underwriters office. We’ll (hopefully) get final approval Friday or Monday, but it could be as late as Wednesday. With Thanksgiving, that puts us to the end of November. Even in a best case scenario, closing before Thanksgiving would be really REALLY tight. So that puts us in the first week of December, which is where I think we want to be anyway.

So stressful! Such a pain in the ass! It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.
