Moving In!

We spent the majority of the next week getting our new place set up.

Moving Day!

My super handy spice shelf! I love being able to look at all my spices at once.

While we worked at unpacking, Annabelle got to hang out at the farm and visit with Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Christy and Cousin Izzy! MoDOT called around mid-week and let me know that I was clear to start work on Monday, July 29th. I was fairly concerned that only being able to lift 35lbs above my head instead of the required 38lbs would cause a problem, but it didn’t!  I’d also like to point out that after two weeks of being on the job, I have yet to encounter any situation that requires lifting anything over my head.

Cousins!

Helping Grandpa drive the tractor.

Izzy’s turn!

Toward the end of the week, we visited Rocky Ridge Farm. This is where Laura Ingalls Wilder and her husband, Almanzo Wilder ended up after they left South Dakota. It’s also where she lived while writing the Little House books. I loved those books as a kid. Getting to walk through her house was amazing!  I was beyond geeked out being able to see letters she wrote to her sisters, pictures of her family, etc. I can’t wait for Annabelle to be old enough to read the books.  I’ve already told Jake that I want to visit the other places she lived, especially De Smet, SD. Luckily, he is always up for a road trip.

This was the view from the house Rose Wilder had built for her parents. Isn’t it gorgeous? They lived there for 8 years, then moved back to their farmhouse.

My companions made fun of me for taking a picture of a field, but It’s so pretty. I would love to have that view every day.
